In a large skillet or pan, cook the ground beef or ground turkey over medium-high heat until browned and crumbled. Drain excess fat if desired.
Add the diced onion (if using) to the skillet and sauté for 2-3 minutes until translucent.
Sprinkle the 1 oz of SANSOM Taco Seasoning ® over the browned meat and stir to combine.
Slowly pour in the 1/2 cup of water and stir well, scraping the bottom of the pan to incorporate any browned bits.
Reduce the heat to low and let the mixture simmer for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the seasoning is fully incorporated, and the desired consistency is reached.
Taste and adjust the seasoning if needed. If you prefer a spicier kick, reduce the amount of meat to 1 lb. For a milder level, increase the meat to 3 lbs.
Serve the savory taco meat in taco shells, burritos, salads, or as a topping for nachos or tostadas.
Notes
For spicier version, use less ground meat and for milder version use more.
For a richer flavor, you can substitute beef broth or chicken broth for the water.
Feel free to add additional vegetables like bell peppers, diced tomatoes, or corn to the taco meat mixture.
